Turkey Minister of Transportation and Maritime Navigation, Arslan Ahmet, said that his country will lay the foundation stone Çanakkale 1915 on the Dardanelles straight on March 2018.
Arslan added that his ministry will launch on Thursday, a tender to build the bridge, which its suspended part between the two earth pillars reach 2023 meters, adding that it would be the largest in the world in this respect.
He pointed out that 24 companies, will compete on the tender, noting that foreign companies entered in the competition, including China, Japan, Korea, Italy, in addition to Turkish intercontinental companies.
Arslan stressed that he would hold a press conference in this regard today, after receiving companies’ offers, in terms of the completion of the project and the time required for construction.
It should be noted that the project will be a bridge linking Asia to Europe, and parallel to the highway project, which the bridge sections will be one of its major parts.
The highway connects between Istanbul and Izmir, and would contribute to easing traffic in Istanbul, especially on suspension bridges, and reduces dramatically transportation costs to the Aegean area.
