Turkey and Algeria signed memorandums of understanding in many fields (diplomatic, cultural, oil and gas, agriculture, tourism and higher education), In the framework of the visit of President Recep Tayip Erdogan to Algeria on February 26, 2018 at the start of a five-day African tour, that will includes Algeria, Mauritania, Senegal, and Mali.
The volume of trade exchange between the two countries reached about 4 billion dollars in 2017.
Erdogan's visit to Algeria is the third since he became president in 2003, and his visit to Mauritania and Mali will be the first of its kind for a Turkish president.
Since he took power, President Erdogan has sought to strengthen Turkey's relations with the African continent, where the number of Turkish embassies in Africa has been increased to reach 41 embassies after it was only 12 in 2009, and Turkey, according to media official, aims to open embassies in all 54 African countries. Turkish Airlines has also expanded its operations in the African continent to include 52 stations.
